Knife duo foiled on doorstep by elderly victims

-

AN elderly couple managed to prevent two men armed with a knife from entering their home.

Mick and Lynn White, who are both retired, saw two men with hoods and holding a knife when they opened the door of their home in Hillside Avenue, Blaenavon, just after midnight yesterday.

The men tried to force their way into the couple’s home but were stopped by Mr White, who is in his seventies.

The couple’s son, Mark, said his mother called the police and his father managed to shut the door on the men.

Mark said: “It is a very narrow hallway, which is lucky. Thankfully, because of our dad’s quick thinking, he managed to push one of the men back into the other and get the door shut and the handle up to turn the key.”

But he said his parents are “shaken and afraid” and appealed for anyone with information to call the police.

Posting an appeal on social media, Mark wrote: “They’re both unhurt. They’re very shaken and afraid in their own home. Please share the hell out of this post to help catch the vile scum bags who tried to force their way into our parents’ home.”

A spokesman for Gwent Police said: “The two male offenders are described as white, in their twenties, around 5ft 7in tall and both wearing hooded tops.

“If anyone has any information, please call 101.”
