COLLEAGUES OVER THE MOON
THIS is the canteen which was the workplace for six ladies who have scooped £4.2m each on a EuroMillions syndicate.
But spare a thought for the other 12 people on their team left behind, who today have donned their aprons and turned up to work at Neath Port Talbot Hospital, serving up jacket potatoes, instead of being served celebratory champagne.
The workmates insist, however, there are no hard feelings, and instead of being disappointed at not being part of the syndicate, say they are over the moon for their friends.
Cheryl Edwards, busy serving food to customers in the hospital cafe in the entrance atrium said: “I could not believe it. It was rumours first of all and then we realised it was the truth.
“I’ve enjoyed working with them and it will be sad now they have gone and we won’t see them anymore.
“I spoke to Julie (Saunders) and we were both crying speaking down the phone. I’m absolutely landed for them and they are going to be missed.
“I had never been on the syndicate myself, I can’t remember being asked! I suppose everyone wishes they were on it themselves but my husband was doing one and it’s one of those things. I’m really happy for them and I’ll miss seeing them.”
Fellow worker Kay Clark said the atmosphere was “absolutely unbelievable.”
“Everyone couldn’t believe it,” she added yesterday. “Good luck to them all, that’s what I say, and I mean that from the bottom of my heart. They are all a good bunch and you wouldn’t wish this on a nicer group of people.”
Their manager, Beryl Walters said: “It is really cliche but you couldn’t wish this on nicer people. They are all very individual, but as a team they are tremendous.”
