Wrexham ace Roberts expecting a tough test at his old club Halifax

-

WREXHAM are back on the road this evening as they head to West Yorkshire to face FC Halifax Town in the National League, writes Chris Smart.

Dean Keates’ side are currently on an eight-game unbeaten run and are sixth, two points off leaders Dover Athletic in what is an incredibly tight division.

The Dragons might well be sitting top of the table had they been more clinical in front of goal.

They were also left to rue what were ultimately two dropped on Saturday when conceding deep into added time and meant they had to settle for a 1-1 draw at the Racecourse against Sutton United – who had led the table heading into the weekend.

Just three points separate Dover (24) in first down to Halifax (21) in 10th with the Shaymen – who were promoted via the National League North play-offs at the end of last season – coming into the match on the back of a 2-0 reverse at Ebbsfleet United at the weekend.

Meanwhile Wrexham defender Kevin Roberts, who joined from Halifax in the summer, will be back on his old stamping ground, where he spent three years.

“It’s just another game,” he said. “Obviously you see a few familiar faces but it makes you want to beat them even more, you don’t want them rubbing it in.

“I’m looking forward to it in that aspect but there’s no added pressure or anything like that.

“They play a certain way, that’s how they play and they do it well. I wouldn’t say they were as direct as Sutton but it’ll be a similar type of game.”

Wrexham have been drawn away at National League counterparts AFC Fylde in the fourth qualifying round of the Emirates FA Cup.

The tie will take place at Mill Farm on Saturday, October 14 while the sides are also set to clash in the league on the same ground on Tuesday, October 24.

Fylde were crowned champions of National League North last season.
