His distribution was lacking, but the former Manchester United youngster was safe under the high ball as Wigan peppered his goal. Punched and caught the ball with confidence.

MATT CONNOLLY

Preferred to Lee Peltier and Jazz Richards at right back, presumably as part of a Neil Warnock rotation policy, the former QPR defender was neat and tidy but not much else. He’s a far less dynamic option than Jazz Richard and even Lee Peltier offers more going forward.

SEAN MORRISON

Hard to find fault with the captain’s performance as he defended vigilantly all afternoon. He seems to dovetail well with Manga, sitting deep on the cover when Bruno darts forward to shut down the forwards.

JOE BENNETT

Hooking the ball clear and knocking it long down the channels isn’t his game. He’s far more capable than that, but was forced deep by an adventurous Wigan side desperate for the win. Bennett stood up to the physical task and impressed.

ARON GUNNARSSON

The kind of game in which you always expect the Ice Man to thrive. The Wigan midfield posed a big challenge but Gunnarsson was strong in the tackle and never shirked his duties.

JOE RALLS

Battled and battled and looked more comfortable in a deeper defensive midfield position. But his passing was astray and Ralls can often frustrate with a lack of composure when looking for the forward pass.

MARK HARRIS

Unable to stamp his influence on the game during a physical first half, the 18-year-old will hope for further chances to impress Warnock. Was withdrawn for Rickie Lambert on 57 minutes.

CRAIG NOONE

Cut a frustrated figure for long periods. Credit to full back Stephen Warnock for keeping “Nooninho” very quiet in the first half, but the former Brighton winger impressed in fits and starts during the second period as the game stretched.

KADEEM HARRIS

Isolated and very very quiet. Harris feeds off Zohore and the Dane’s absence seemed to leave the wide man without a focal point to aim his runs and crosses.

ANTHONY PILKINGTON

Initially asked to fill the Zohore chasm up front and struggled, but improved after the break when dropping deeper. The Irish international also made a couple of key defensive headers in the other box.
