-

LIVERPOOL and Manchester City shared the points after a titantic 1-1 draw in the Premier League yesterday afternoon.

City took a first-half lead when John Stones turned in a corner at the near post, but the Reds got back on terms after the break when Alexis Mac Allister scored from the penalty spot after Darwin Nunez had been upended by goalkeeper Ederson.

Elsewhere, Tottenham thrashed Aston Villa 4-0 at Villa Park. All the goals came in the second half through James Maddison, below, Brennan Johnson, Son Heungmin and Timo Werner.

West Ham came from two goals down to draw 2-2 with Burnley. Lucas Paqueta and Danny Ings hit back after David Fofana and a Konstantinos Mavropanos own goal put Burnley clear.

And Andrew Omobamidele’s own goal gifted Brighton a 1-0 victory and dented Nottingham

Forest’s chances of Premier League survival.

Arsenal had returned to the top of the standings on Saturday with an eventful 2-1 home victory over Brentford.

Kai Havertz headed an 86thminute winner after teammate Aaron Ramsdale had gifted the Bees an equaliser.

Declan Rice gave the Gunners the lead, but goalkeeper Ramsdale – only playing because regular starter David Raya is on loan from Brentford and was therefore not able to play – allowed Yoanne Wissa to charge down his clearance straight into the net.

Elsewhere, Manchester United needed two penalties and some wayward Everton finishing to take a 2-0 win at Old Trafford.

Bruno Fenandes and Marcus Rashford both scored from 12 yards after Alejandro Garnacho was tripped on both occasions.

Sheffield United let slip a twogoal lead at Bournemouth as the match ended 2-2. Gustavo Hamer and Jack Robinson put the Blades in charge, but Dango Ouattara and Enes Unal hit back.

Cauley Woodrow snatched an equaliser deep into injury-time as Luton drew 1-1 at Crystal Palace. Jean-Philippe Mateta had given Palace the lead. And Rayan AitNouri and Nelson Semedo gave Wolves a 2-1 win over visiting Fulham. Alex Iwobi replied late on.

Chelsea play host to Newcastle this evening (8pm).
