Larder cook school opens pop up cafe

Venture is great experience for students

- Debbie Hall

The Larder Cook School and Training Academy has opened West Lothian’s first pop up café which is run and delivered by its hospitality students.

It will primarily operate as a training café for The Larder hospitality students, on the first Tuesday of each month (except January). It dishes up high quality food which is planned, prepared and served by the students.

The café, in Bellsquarry, provides them with a real life experience of a working kitchen whilst being supervised by expert chefs.

Angela Boyd, of the Larder explained: “The larder is a social enterprise that operates a hospitality training academy and a cook school, providing a range of learning experiences for young people furthest from the job market and for leisure customers interested in cooking. All proceeds from the café are used to further support the training programmes and help young people into work in the hospitality sector.”

The Larder also operates a coffee shop Monday to Friday 10am until 2pm where you can enjoy delicious speciality teas, coffees and home baking. The charity is also currently recruiting volunteers and sessional chefs and is particularly keen to recruit experienced bakers to deliver a range of training programmes in scratch bread making and baking. If you are an experienced chef or baker please get in touch with Angela on 01506 412819 or email her angela@thelarder. org. You can also find The Larder Cook School on Facebook and Twitter.
