Sun shines for music festival
Local bands make Sing on the Bing a success
There was plenty of fun in the sun on Saturday when Pumpherston hosted the first Sing on the Bing Festival.
The event at Recreation Park in the village saw hundreds of people turn out to enjoy a day of live music and entertainment.
The festival was the brainchild of musicians Kevin McGinty, of Pumpherston band Dukla Slam, and Joe Campbell, who performs in Easter in Panama - another group from the village.
Speaking ahead of the festival, Kevin said: “Sing on the Bing has grown out of a reunion with several bands who got together last year for a sell-out gig in the Pigeon Club in East Calder.”
Joe added: “The gig was a complete sell-out and so much fun, and so many people were keen to do it again this year.
“However, there are no venues in Pumpherston so we have engaged with Pumpherston Community Council and the idea for the festival grew from there.”
Sing on the Bing provided a showcase for new artists to showcase their talents. And organisers are now looking ahead to next year, with plans to hold another festival then.
Karen Roger, chair of Pumpherston Community Council added: “Sing on the Bing is all about celebrating local talent and the heritage of the village.
“There were so many genres of music that there really was something for everybody. There were many people who came from far afield for the festival so it gave them chance to catch up with old friends and people who have recently moved to Pumpherston had a chance to chat with the new neighbours. Overall it was an excellent day.”
