Happy Christmas, BROTHER...

Cain gets a prison visit from his long-lost sibling, Caleb

-

Christmas Day was never going to be much of a corker for Cain, who’s banged up after taking the rap for Al’s murder. And if being separated from his family wasn’t difficult enough, he’s put through the wringer when he agrees to see the person who’s been hounding him with letters… his longlost brother, Caleb.

If Caleb sounds unfamiliar and you’re wondering if you’ve missed a vital episode, fear not – all will be explained. The gist of the story is that the handsome fella is Chas and Cain’s younger sibling, and was given up by Faith at birth. Caleb tried to reconnect with Faith when he was a teenager, but Cain lied to him that she was dead.

‘Caleb has found out about Cain being in prison, but more importantly, he has found out that Faith has just died, whereas Cain told Caleb their mum was dead 30 years ago,’ says former Waterloo Road star William

Ash, who plays the Dales newcomer.

‘That has instigated him to get in contact with Cain. There’s a lot of bitterness, resentment and

‘THERE’S A LOT OF BITTERNESS, RESENTMENT AND ANGER’

anger that Cain took away the opportunity for him to have a relationship with Faith.’

Cain’s not one for deep-and-meaningfuls at the best of times, and barks at his brother to stay away from his family when Caleb demands an explanation.

Caleb slopes off, but Chas is then confronted by a stranger in the village who has some bombshell news. Has Caleb ignored Cain’s warning?

The following day, Cain’s due a visit from wife Moira, but he’s in turmoil after his and

Caleb’s frosty reunion. As he mentally replays his past, flashback scenes take us to 1991 to reveal exactly what happened during the brothers’ first encounter. ‘Cain wasn’t trying to be unkind – he did what he did to protect Caleb from Faith,’ reveals actor Jeff Hordley, who plays the older brother. ‘His attitude then was, “You don’t want to be with this woman, because she has let me down all my life.”’

Can Cain bring himself to explain the truth, and accept Caleb into the Dingle clan?
