Restaurant of the week
Redstones, Uddingston
Location
On Glasgow Road, just across the road from the train station, Redstones is a little hotspot eaterie right in the heart of Uddingston town.
First Impressions
Housed in a big red sandstone building, it looks lovely from outside. Inside, the high ceilings and fireplaces have been mixed with modern decor for a more contemporary feel.
Service
It’s a Saturday night dinner service, which is busy, but the waiter manages to squeeze us in at a lovely table by the window. Service is friendly and prompt and nothing is a problem for the attentive staff.
Menu
There’s certainly variety. A strong Italian feel with pizza, pasta and calzone, but there are also burgers, salads, seafood and steaks and skewers from the grill. Ideal if you don’t know quite what you fancy, or you and your party want different cuisines.
Taste
We plump for the mussels and chicken goujons to start, both of which go down a treat. The tomato and garlic sauce in the mussels is sublime and there’s a big slab of garlic bread to make sure you mop up every last drop! For mains, we try the pepperoni pizza and chicken skewers. Both are large dishes but so tasty we almost manage to clear our plates. Sadly, there’s no room left to sample one of the delicious sounding desserts! Despite demolishing their pizza and chicken nuggets, the little diners still manage an ice cream.
Ambience
Situated inside a big house, it’s cosy and homely. We found our visit warm and relaxed.
Price
Coming in at just under £70 for two adults and two children with a few glasses of wine and beer thrown in (well, it is Saturday!) we found it very reasonable.
