Marvin and Martindale team up at Livi

Marvin Bartley has taken another step towards becoming a manager.

The 34-year-old has accepted an offer to become the new Livingston assistant boss.

He will remain registered as a player with the West Lothian club, but replaces Liam Fox – who left to join Hibs’ coaching staff – in the dugout.

Bartley captained Livi to the League Cup Final back in February, and has become an increasingly influential figure at the Tony Macaroni Arena.

He said: “When I first came into the club and was speaking to Davie Martindale about signing, I said that I wanted to go into coaching.

“He allowed me to do that with the reserves first and foremost. This is almost like a natural progression.

“I’ve got aspirations to one day be a manager myself, but I’ve got to take the right steps in order to get there.

“I think I’ve done that with the reserves, and will now give it my all as assistant manager.

“I’m delighted to be offered this position, and that Davie trusts me in the role.”

Manager Martindale said: “I’m really pleased Marvin has taken this opportunity.

“I have a fantastic relationship with him as my captain, and I’m delighted that I’ll have him by my side in the dugout next season.

“I think it’s clear for everyone to see that Marvin is very well-educated, on and off the field.”

Livingston have also to appoint a new goalkeeping coach after Englishman, Tony Caig, left to concentrate on a role with the SFA.

▪ Paul Sheerin is set to be appointed as the new manager of Falkirk, writes DANNY STEWART.

The Aberdeen coach is understood to have emerged from a series of interviews to be the Bairns’ clear choice to fill the post.

And that will mean a return to the dugout for the former St Johnstone and Inverness Caley Thistle midfielder.

His new employers will hope his previous experience in leading Arbroath to the Third Division title will help them get out of League One.

Falkirk had previously been denied permission to speak to Hamilton Accies boss, Brian Rice.
