It’s a do-or-die away day for the Warriors

IT’S win or bust for Glasgow Warriors this afternoon.

They travel to face Bath in what is almost a straight shoot-out for a spot in the European Champions Cup knockout stages.

But even a win at the famous Rec might not be enough if other results go against Gregor Townsend’s team.

The Warriors, though, can take inspiration from their first meeting which saw them notch a superb 37-10 win with Mark Bennett bagging a brace of tries.

“I was delighted with how it went in the first game,” nods the 21-year-old. “Scoring two tries in any game is great, never mind a huge game like that.

“It’s great to beat any English side. They are always talked about in the Press so it was nice just for us to silence them.

“We played exceptionally well and we exploited them in places they weren’t really expecting. I think we’ve got to go for the same again. We’ve really just got to take it to them.

“It’s just about playing smart and boxing clever. They will be expecting us to do these things now so it’s just about making little changes to make sure we’re still exploiting opportunities differently to what they will be expecting.”

Bennett, who’ll be a key man in Scotland’s midfield in the looming RBS 6 Nations, adds: “They had a few injuries that weekend and they are going to be stronger now.

“They are going to be fired up for it as that result was not what anyone was expecting, and they are not going to want to lose this one at home.

“Bath are a real confidence side, playing some great rugby and scoring some great tries. I think they have the best defence in the Premiership as well so it is a huge challenge but I don’t think it’s one that we can’t overcome.”

Bennett will have former Rugby League legend Sam Burgess coming off the bench to line up against him at centre, all six-foot five and 18 stone of him.

But Bennett’s never shirked a tackle so, his tongue is firmly in his cheek, when he says: “Personally, if he runs at me I’m not going anywhere other than his ankles – it would just be stupid not to because he’s twice the size of me.

“The best thing for evasion is fear so I’ll not be running anywhere near him, that’s for sure!”
