TIGER STRIPES IT TO GO THREE CLEAR
Tiger Woods last night fired a spectacular five-under-par front-nine of 30 as he took control of the PGA Tour’s Tour Championship at Atlanta’s East Lake club.
A further birdie at 12 was offset by a bogey-five on the 16th as the 14-time Major champion signed for a 65 at the end of a day that left him sitting on 12-under-par.
Woods will take a threeshot lead into today’s final round in his quest to secure his first PGA Tour victory for more than five years.
His nearest challengers are world No. 1 Justin Rose and his European Ryder Cup team-mate Rory Mcilroy.
Both men sit on nine-under-par.
Mcilroy fired a four-under 66, while Rose fought back from back-to-back bogeys on the first and second to sign for a 68.
Meanwhile, Anne van Dam stretched her lead to five strokes on a day of low scoring at the Estrella Damm Mediterranean Ladies Open yesterday.
The 22-year-old Dutchwoman added a sixunder-par 65 to a pair of opening 66s to move to 20-under-par at Club de Golf Terramar in Sitges.
Caroline Hedwall, who shot a final round of 62 to win the Lacoste Ladies Open de France a fortnight ago, climbed into second with another nine-under-par round, which could easily have been a 59.
A 64 from the South African Women’s Open champion, Ashleigh Buhai, propelled her into solo third on 14-under.
There was another 64 from the Korean amateur Selin Hyun who shares fourth place with Caroline Masson, Thidapa Suwannapura and Celine Herbin.
