Queen of the South legend Derek Lyle has returned to the boxing ring to ensure that he finds another club after being released.

The 37-year-old was let go after 365 games and 117 goals in three separate stints with the Doonhamers.

He is determined to play on and will return to boxing over the summer to keep him sharp.

The goal-grabber (below) said: “I have done some boxing training on and off for a number of years, and I am going back to it now.

“It helps massively in terms of keeping my weight down and staying fit and sharp.”

Playing the Name game again

Dumbarton’s 19-year-old ground is set for a ninth name change as their stadium sponsor, YOUR Radio, can no longer fulfil their commitment to the club.

The original name of Dumbarton’s second home was the Strathclyde Homes Stadium.

After a period as the Dumbarton Football Stadium, it became the Dumbarton Football Stadium sponsored by DL Cameron, in memory of club director, Douglas Cameron.

It was then The Bet Butler Stadium, the Dumbarton Football Stadium again, the Cheaper Insurance Direct Stadium, the Dumbarton Football Stadium once more and, lastly, the YOUR Radio 103FM Stadium.

Fans prefer the simple moniker of ‘The Rock’, and despite plans to move to a new location, the Sons are now looking for another backer.

aidan’s on the Move

Former Queen’s Park, Dundee United and Raith Rovers striker, Aidan Connolly, has been freed by York City.

The 22-year-old scored the Minstermen’s winner in last year’s FA Trophy Final win over Macclesfield Town 3–2 at Wembley.
