Hannah recalls hosting horrors

The Time’s Up movement is welcome – if a little late – for actress Hannah Arterton.

Hannah, who is starring in new Netflix cop series Safe, worked in all sorts of different jobs between acting roles.

And she’s told in10 that in one at least, sexism was rife.

“I was a hostess in a restaurant and it was awful,” said Hannah, sister of movie star Gemma.

“I was treated terribly. It was in the City and I was expected to wear dresses and certain kinds of make-up and greet the men.

“It was back in 2012 and it seemed so old-fashioned even then.

“I’d hope that’s not expected now of young women, but I’m sure it is.”

Safe is a big eight-part police drama also starring US actor Michael C Hall, from Dexter, and Amanda Abbington, John Watson’s wife in Sherlock.

Hannah, who has also appeared in Atlantis and The Five, plays one of the detectives in the seemingly-safe small town that has hidden secrets.

It’s quite a dark drama from the makers of Scott & Bailey and Hannah says that was even more reason for lightening the mood.

“All Amanda and I did every day was giggle.

“The blooper reel of outtakes will be fantastic!”

Hannah’s a big fan of crime dramas anyway and used getting the role as an excuse for squeezing in even more viewing of real-life crime documentaries.

Gemma’s sisterly advice has always been a huge help in her career.

“She had a very different ride to myself as she was an overnight success,” adds Hannah.

“But we talk all the time about the importance of being choosy and not being scared to say no.

“We’ve spoken about working together and we have some irons in the fire.”
