‘THIS MONEY WILL HELP ME WALK AGAIN’

Butcher helps Levi, who lost legs to sepsis

A BUTCHER has reached out to help a JCB worker who lost both legs to sepsis.

Levi Dewey, right, had both of his legs amputated just days before his 21st birthday. He and his family have since launched a campaign to pay for the support he needs at home and when out and about, raising more than £87,500

Now Craig Taylor, of Taylors Butchers of Trentham, has stepped in to help. The shop has run events to raise money for charities. This time it raffled off a high-end air fryer.

Levi had previously used money from fund-raising for a wheelchair. He is also looking into getting prosthetic legs and making his home more accessible.

Levi said: “We got into the draw because they saw what happened to me. I’m just thankful for it. I was rushed to hospital in December after getting sepsis.

“I was in a coma for 14 days, then once I came round from that, I had to have my legs double amputated – it was just before my 21st birthday.

“The money will be to help me walk. We’ve been looking at prosthetics; when I’ve been measured up and healed we can look into it. We want some home improvements as well.”

Craig, aged 33, organised the fundraiser. He said: “We do a lot of charity work when we can. We wanted to make sure it was going to someone directly. This way we can see first hand where it’s going. It’s not the first charity we’ve done, and it’s something we’ll do again.

“It means a lot to us as a community butcher shop. It’s nice to see the people that are getting the benefit from the funding.”
