WE’LL PULL TOGETHER TO DRAG US OUT OF SLUMP, SAYS BOYCE

- By Jim Black

LIAM BOYCE believes that Ross County’s tight-knit dressing room will enable them to bounce back after just two Premiership wins in 12 matches.

The striker concedes that the players’ confidence was jolted at Fir Park last week when they shipped four goals to Motherwell.

But he is adamant they can beat Rangers today. The Northern Ireland international said: ‘When a poor run drags on, you need to come together — and we’re a tight bunch.

‘We are almost like a family. Being up here, with many players away from their families, everyone becomes closer and that’s good for us as a team.

‘But while we’re all really close off the pitch, we need to get closer on it and help each other out. If one of us makes a mistake, someone else needs to dig them out of a hole. That doesn’t seem to be happening and we’re getting punished for every mistake.

‘I wouldn’t say there is tension in the camp but, because it has gone on for so long, you can start doubting each other and yourself.’ A 0-0 draw at Ibrox in September was one of County’s better results but Boyce (left) was a spectator because of a back problem. He said: ‘We defended well and had a couple of chances. ‘So we know what we are capable of and we probably play better against the bigger teams.’

A 4-0 home defeat by Celtic last month suggested otherwise but the scoreline was far from a true reflection of the match.

‘We did really well until we decided to go for it,’ said Boyce. ‘We were also unlucky with Craig Gordon even saving one with his bum. We just need one of those to go in. One win can change our situation.’
