Knights enjoy sweet victory over Heriot’s after tricky spell

The Southern Knights recorded just their second FOSROC Super6 Championsh­ip win of the campaign on Saturday as they got the better of Heriot’s at Goldenacre.

T h e f i f t h - p l a c e d B o r d e r - ers cannot make the play-off s e mi - f i n a l s , b u t t h i s b o n u s point 27-20 triumph in Edinburgh will have felt sweet after a tricky period.

The home side to ok just a losing bonus point here, have now suffered three home losses on the trot and are rather l i mpi n g i n t o t h o s e p l ay - o f f semi-finals which will take place later in the month.

It started well for Heriot’s as they went ahead thanks to an unconver ted tr y by skipp er Iain Wilson.

However, Edinburgh Rugby loosehead prop Nick Auterac then scored a converted effort to make it 7-5 to the Knights.

kicked a penalty for the home side before a converted try by David Colvine gave the Knights a bonus point and an 11-point cushion. Jack Blain’s converted effort got Heriot’s back within four points with seven minutes to go, but a late penalty kicked by Scotland cap Jaco van der Walt meant the victory headed south.

M e a n w h i l e , Wa t s o n i a n s are back at the top of the table after a 27-10 bonus point win at third-placed Boroughmui­r Bears at Meggetland.

The home side played well in the first 40 minutes and led 10-7 at the interval, but Watsonians took control after halftime.

The sole try for the Bears was scored by teenage hooker Jerry Blyth-lafferty while Watsonians’ tries came from Pierce Phillips, Dom Coetzer, Angus Guthrie and Bobby Bratton.

Edinburgh Accies are now top of the Tennent’s Premiershi­p after a 56-17 bonus point win at Musselburg­h.

Currie Chieftains are second by points difference after their own 39-12 bonus point win at Glasgow Hawks.

Hawick are third - and still unbeaten - after a 20-3 home victory over Marr with Selkirk fifth following a 28-14 victory over GHA.
