Goldie hopes Sound Of Iona can make waves

- By GORDON BROWN

Jim Goldie is hoping to end the Scottish Flat season in style with Sound Of Iona in the feature race at Musselburgh today.

The Amie Waugh-ridden Uplawmoor raider takes on nine rivals in the £22,000 British EBF Scottish Premier Fillies’ Handicap over seven furlongs at the East Lothian venue.

Goldie, joint-leading trainer at Musselburgh on nine winners with Keith Dalgleish for 2022 heading into the final meeting, said: “She’s a filly I bred myself so I know the family well. This is only her third run at the trip but she’s been placed both times, including when second to a Godolphin horse (Noble Dynasty) ridden by the champion jockey William Buick at Newmarket last month.”

Opposition to Sound Of Iona includes likely favourite Queenlet, trained by William Haggas and ridden by Danny Tudhope, who was a close third in similar company at her local track recently.

Also in the line-up is ex-James Tate-trained F loral Splendour, a first-time handicapper, who makes her de but for Iain Jardine after changing hands for 36,000gns at the sales last month. Jardine’s newlyinstalled stable apprentice Poppy Wilson has just her fourth ride aboard Kats Bob in the Join Racing TV Now Handicap. The seven pound claimer hasn’t had her licence for long and her first mount came at Newcastle just over a fortnight ago.

Meanwhile, the royal silks could be carried to Pattern-race success for the first time in the name of the King when Perfect Alibi lines up in the British Stallion Studs EBF Beckford Stakes at Yarmouth.

Haggas' filly has won twice already this season and she gave a good account of herself when second to Hoo Ya Mal in the March Stakes at Goodwood most recently.
