Catalogue of 2022 violence as killers claim 14 lives in Merseyside this year
At least 14 people have died violently in Merseyside just eight months into the year.
The spate of violence includes theshootingofa15-year-oldgirl on her way home from school andthestabbingofa14-year-old boy in Liverpool city centre.
Merseysidepolicehaveissued press releases concerning 14 suspected killings, 11 non-fatal stabbings and 13 non-fatal shootings since the start of 2022.
By comparison, there were 17 homicides recorded by the force across the whole of 202122,accordingtothelatesthome Office figures.
Violent crime across the regionhasbeenincreasingconsistentlyinrecentyears,according to the Home Office data.
There were 68,720 cases of violence against the person recorded in 2021-22, a figure that has been climbing year on year, up from 45,848 recorded in 2018-19.
The first fatality of 2022 was onjanuary14whenamaninhis 60s died after being found with serious injuries at a property in Heswall then a month later Dylan Bacon, 39, was stabbed to death in Old Swan.
On March 27, five people were arrested on suspicion of murder after the body of a man was found in Pensby earlier in the day. On April 10, 36-year-old Gary Morgan, found stabbed at a house in Everton, dies of his injuries and six days later Michael Toohey died following an attack in an internet cafe in Liverpool.
Threepeoplediedwithinfour days in May – 43-year-old Lorraine Cullen stadded to death onmay11,amanischargedwith murder following the death of Karen Wheeler, 62, the following day and Derek Burns, 49, was stabbed to death in Tuebrook on May 15.

Four people died within four days this month. Sam Rimmer, 19, was shot dead in Lavrock Bank on Friday, 28-yearold council worker Ashley Dale died after being shot in the Old Swan area of Liverpool in the earlyhoursofsunday,awoman inher50swasfatallystabbedon Monday and later that day Olivia Pratt-korbell was shot dead in Knotty Ash.
