A very tempting Singh 4 Your Supper menu has been launched by celebrity chef, Tony Singh MBE in conjunction with a Scottish charity.

Kerala king prawn, butter chicken, aloo chole and gulab jamun. These are part of the very tempting Singh 4 Your Supper menu that celebrity chef, Tony Singh MBE, has launched in conjunction with a Scottish charity - the biggest distributor of free fresh food to the homeless in the UK.

“Social Bite is such an incredible cause so when they asked me to get involved in creating some home dining boxes, it was an easy yes”, says Edinburgh-based Singh, who was awarded his MBE in 2017 for services to food and drink, and his charity work. “My passion is creating delicious, high-quality food that can be shared together. But what makes these boxes even more special, is that these will be helping to support Social Bite’s mission of ending homelessness.”

The meal is available to order online from April 22, and costs £60 for two people

All of the proceeds go to the Scottish charity, which has provided 800,000 emergency food packs and essential items during the pandemic.

Your takeaway box can be collected on May 7 or 8 from 3-6pm at their Social Bite Cafes in Edinburgh and Glasgow’s city centre, as well as their central kitchen in Livingston.

It’s hoped that if this pilot project goes well, it could lead to other collaborations.

Josh Littlejohn MBE, CEO and co-founder of Social Bite, said: “It’s been great to work with the incredibly talented Tony Singh to help produce our first ever home dining boxes. The menu we’ve created gives people a real taste of India and allows them to enjoy the recommendations of one of the country’s top chefs from the comfort of their own home.”

As well as the three shareable main courses and dessert, the box also include sides of spiced fur-fur (deep fried puffs), paratha, jeera pilau rice and spiced onions (a recipe designed by Tony’s wife, Bechan), plus a selection of sauces - mango, mint, yoghurt and tamarind.

To assemble your dinner, there is a minimal amount of cooking and plating.

While some restaurants will be reopening on April 26, others are taking their time, and the trend for restaurant meals at home looks to continue for a while.

Although Singh has been offering his Singh 4 Your Supper menu through his own website during lockdown, this new and limitededition menu was prepared and designed in Social Bite’s Central Kitchen in Livingston.

All the dishes are family recipes, which the Singhs enjoy regularly at home.

Expect good things, as Kayt Turner reviewed Singh’s own version of this takeaway for Scotland on Sunday back in March this year. She gave it a score of eight out of 10, and said; “This entire meal is a wonderful indulgence and there's absolutely no point in denying yourself ”.

This hasn’t been Social Bite’s only lockdown venture.

Back in October 2020, they launched their excellent Box of Joy Brownies, from £12 for four, also available through their website and with all proceeds going to the charity.
