Spiders continue title charge as Brechin slump continues

-

Queen’s Park continued their title charge with a 2-0 win over Albion Rovers at Cliftonhill.

Ray Mckinnon’s men went ahead on six minutes when Jai Quitongo burst down the right and delivered for Darren Lyon to fire past Harry Stone. The Spiders doubled their lead with half an hour played when Luca Connell’s well-struck effort from outside the box flew into the net.

In the second half Connell’s corner was nodded in by Salim Kouider-aïssa to give the leaders a fourth straight win.

Edinburgh City boosted their play-off push with a 3-1 win at Cowdenbeath. Blair Henderson diverted Liam Brown’s shot past Nicky Hogarth for the opener, but Harvey Swann equalised with a long-range strike into the top corner.

Henderson grabbed his second with a half-volley before break and in the second half Raffaele De Vita bundled in the third after Henderson had touched on a corner.

Jordan Allan’s second-half strike helped Stirling Albion to a 1-0 derby over Stenhousemuir at Forthbank. Allan slammed in from close range with Stenny’s Tommy Muir dismissed late on.

Brechin slumped to their fourth straight defeat, going down 3-1 to visitors Elgin. The evening started brightly for the Glebe Park side when Connor Barron scored, however seconds into the second half Brechin were reduced to ten men when Yusuf Hussain handled a shot on the goaline. Kane Hester scored from the resulting penalty and Darryl Mchardy headed in the winner from a corner.
