I’ve had both jabs but still don’t feel safe Discard masks, I trust my common sense I’ll happily wear mine when I need to
... YOU HAVE YOUR SAY
Face masks are no longer a legal requirement following Monday’s easing of coronavirus restrictions – but would you still wear one even if you did not have to? Guidance published by the government says it “expects and recommends that people continue to wear a face-covering in crowded, enclosed spaces”.
Housing Secretary Robert Jenrick said the wearing of face masks will become a “personal responsibility” and that people would “come to different conclusions” over masks, but he trusted people “to exercise good judgement”.
The Scarborough News asked readers on Facebook if they will still wear a mask when the rules relax, with many saying they will continue to wear one out of courtesy for others. But others couldn’t wait to ditch the mask.
Tim Sykes said: “I will wear it if an establishment wants me to. Work, for example, still want us to use one when navigating the building but if it is not required, I’m mask free.”
Anita Ferguson said: “I’ve really enjoyed people not coughing or sneezing their germs all over me so I’ll happily wear mine when I need to.”
Liz Middleton said: “I loathe wearing a mask but will continue to do so in public spaces indoors.”
Ken Collings said: “I will not stop being clinically extremely vulnerable and I have been double jabbed months ago, so I will carry on regardless for my own safety and that of others.”
Julie Brookbanks said: “I’m still wearing one when in shops. I’ve had both my jabs a few weeks ago,
but still don’t feel safe.”
But some could not wait to get rid of their masks.
Angie Phoenix said: “Ditching it and can’t wait!”
Mary Whitaker added: “Discard it, I trust my own common sense!”
Jane Blackie said: “I will wear one if I have to and if asked to, but otherwise no.”
Cara Peterson said: “Not worn one so won’t make a difference.” Jordan Hookem said: “Ditch, ditch and more ditch!”
Christopher Harrison said: “Definitely not wearing it.”
Hannah Upson said: “I still have to wear one for work but no way will I be wearing one if I am not needed to.”
