YCA meeting

The Hunmanby branch of the Yorkshire Countrywom­en’s Associatio­n will be holding its first meeting of the year at 2pm in the community centre on Wednesday February 1.

The speaker will be John Hazlewood who will talk to us about the work of the Samaritans.

Members then celebrated with a beautiful cake and wine on the occasion of Mollie Dobson having been a member of Seamer and Irton WI for 50 years.

The annual dinner is on Friday January 27 at the Copper Horse, Seamer, meet at 7pm for 7.30pm.

The craft group will meet on February 8 in the memorial hall at 2pm and the social coffee get together is at Irton Garden Centre at 10.30am on January 31, members and nonmembers are all welcome.

The competitio­n for a slice of Christmas cake was won by Jan Braidley and raffle winners were Norma King, Pam Cooper, Jane Buddo and Mollie Dobson. Eileen Burn. The preacher this Sunday at 10.30am will be Mr Martyn Mellodew. perhaps ridiculed for being Christians.

Luke Harker gave a bible reading, and Edna Burton accompanie­d the hymns on the piano (at the end of the service the vicar led the congregati­on in a rendition of Happy Birthday to celebrate Edna’s birthday).

Doreen Livesey and Elizabeth Chapman were sidesperso­ns, and Sue Johnson and Enid Plevey served refreshmen­ts.

Judith Dean preached again at the 11am modern communion service. The Rev Moreland presided, Chris Bray read and John Haslam led the intercessi­ons.

Jenny and Duncan Bland ran the Sunday Club. Richard Fuller (guitar) led the sung worship with Steve Raettig (keyboard) and John and Sue Grice (guitar and bass).

Jo Taylor was the sidesperso­n and Andy Taylor served refreshmen­ts after the service.
