LEAGUE leaders Camborne were pushed hard by Weston-super-Mare, Ben Priddey’s hat-trick helping them to a 26-22 win.
Nico De Battista was also on target at the Recreation Ground, but it was hooker Priddey who stole the limelight with an imperious display of power, control and finishing prowess.
Weston were never out of the contest, but had to settle for just one match point. Kyran Devitt scored twice for the hosts and centre Huw Morgan once.
The two clubs immediately below the summit played out a thriller at Astley Park, Brixham beating Chew Valley 43-27 and leapfrogging their opponents into second spot.
Openside Jordan Watson scored a hat-trick for the home side, Joel Ashworth, Koree Britton, Matt Crosscombe and Jason Capaldi also in on the act. Marc Daly, Tom Bryan, Dean Brooker and Liam Evans ensured Valley a point.
At Polson Bridge, the Cornish All Blacks eeked past Exmouth, 29-24, with two tries from Lloyd Duke keeping them within touching distance of the
top half of the table.
Levent Bulut, George Bone and Dan Pearce all added scores of their own, Pearce’s two conversions proving vital in the final reckoning. Nick Headley’s hat-trick and George Meadows’s nine points were in vain.
Old Centralians produced a superb display to down Lydney at the Saintbridge Sports Centre, four tries taking them to a 26-10 win and up to eighth.
Mike Mathers and Nathan Stroud scored before the break, Geraint Evans and Liam Hemming maintaining the momentum into the second half.
Bottom club Drybrook showed plenty of guts and determination at the Rectory Field against
Devonport Services, but were beaten 19-13.
Kyle Frowen and Michael Addis were the visitors’ try scorers, Devonport indebted to the kicking of full-back Kieran Down with four penalties and a conversion of Tom Davies’ second-half try.
Okehampton were at their best as they comfortably beat Ivybridge 41-25, the win taking them out of the relegation zone and up to ninth.
Richard Bolt, Saul Holliday, Leon Horn and hooker Nathan Tomkins, twice, were their try scorers at Showfield.
