Chinnor 3rds just can’t stop winning

- ■ By BEN JAYCOCK

CHINNOR’S 3rd XV are currently enjoying a sensational five-year unbeaten run that goes back to 2018. The Wildboys’ sensational run includes 71 victories and two draws in 73 games - their last defeat coming against Bracknell 2nd team on January 13, 2018.

Co-captain Harry Lowe, who has been at the club throughout the course of the unbeaten spell, is immensely proud of the achievement.

He said: “I don’t think anyone at the start thought that we would get this far into it but seeing it game by game carry on is a testament to everyone that’s taken part.

“It started just over five years ago, of course there’s been players in and out in that time. People get to a point where they don’t want to travel as much or can’t commit to three days a week of senior training, so they drop down to us. There’s been a massive amount of changes involved but the influx of younger players coming in with the same hunger has really helped out.”

The club’s token match celebration is a can of lukewarm John Smith’s with a sing song in the changing rooms, and 26-year-old full back Lowe shares the feeling of revelling in a win never gets old.

He added: “It’s one of those feelings you don’t get too bored of. The postmatch celebrations always seem to lighten up a Saturday.

“I’ve been here since I was four, so it is the only rugby club I’ve ever known. During the season I spend most weekends here either watching or playing. It’s the biggest commitment in my life.”

The club are currently top of Counties 1 Tribute Southern North (level seven) and Lowe stresses that the aim is to continue climbing the leagues.

He said: “There’s always that hunger to go as far as we can. We understand the different challenges to come with each step up. We’ve noticed this year that the games are a lot tougher physically and quicker. If we get that chance to go up we’ll push on and make the most of it.”
