Wanderers crowned county champs

- By JAY BURFORD

ONE East Central runners-up Glamorgan Wanderers claimed the Glamorgan County Silver Ball trophy with a 37-32 victory over One West Central champions Maesteg Quins.

Lewis Tutt touched down either side of half time for the Quins with Lewis Francis also on the scoresheet and Rhodri Davies booting ten points.

A late penalty try looked set to give them the win until Will Adams-Jones crashed over in the corner to hand Wanderers a dramatic last-gasp win.

Rob Lewis, Rob Weston and Luke Fish had already gone over by the time Adams-Jones touched down deep into injury time while Fish booted a superb 17 points.

Elsewhere, Pwllheli ended their One North campaign with a dismal 3115 defeat at Bala.

John Pugh, Deio Brunelli and Daniel Glyn Williams all darted over for last year’s champions but Bala, who topped the table in 2014, cruised to victory thanks to a double from Owain Aled.

Owain Pugh, Dochan Roberts and Miallt Roberts all followed him over while Rhydian Jones sealed the triumph with three conversions.

Penallta claimed the runners-up place in One East after a convincing 6110 success at Abertillery.

There were plenty of points scored in One West Central as Maesteg saw off Resolven 49-33.

Tom Evans, Geraint Roberts, Rhys Davies, Kieran Griffiths, Calvin Powell and Gavin Ronan all went over for Maesteg with Tadgh McGuckin booting the rest.

Andy Harvey hit back for Resolven with a hattrick while Mike Ralph and Christian Sandry followed him over. Owen Evans added four conversions. Ystalyfera were also in flowing form as they beat Seven Sisters 52-7 with Luc Caines claiming a treble. The points continued to flow in One West as Dunvant cruised past Tycroes 53-17 while Kidwelly beat Crymych 16-11 and Aberystwyth were 26-19

winners over Llangennech. But champions Felinfoel fell to a 26-8 defeat to

Tenby United, which saw them avoid the drop.

In One East Central, relegated Llanharan bagged their sixth win of the season with a 14-10 triumph of St Joseph’s. Heol-y-Cyw, who will join Llanharan in Division Two next season, fell to a narrow 31-29 defeat to Dinas Powys.
