Accident: Vehicle crashes into wall next to embankment

- BY JANE CANDLISH

A lorry driver had a lucky escape yesterday morning after his truck went off the road and was left on the edge of 30ft drop beside Loch Ness.

The vehicle appeared to have gone straight ahead at a right-hand bend, knocking a tree over and leaving it teetering on top of a stone wall at the edge of the road.

On the other side of the wall is a steep embankment of trees and bushes leading down to the famous loch.

The driver was unhurt and made his escape from the cab of his vehicle before emergency services arrived at the scene.

The accident happened as the lorry was travelling south on the A82 Inverness-Fort William road, just north of the Clansman Hotel at 9.10am.

A police spokeswoman said that the driver was not hurt.

However the stone wall was badly damaged.

The road was not blocked at the time, but traffic was stopped while a recovery truck pulled the vehicle back onto the road.

Earlier yesterday morning a pedestrian suffered cuts and bruises after being struck by a car at Fort George, Ardersier.

And a car overturned after leaving a road in Shetland.

The vehicle was travell in g on the A970 at Voe when the incident happened just before 8am.

The male driver managed to get out of the car.
