Moyes says ‘everything fine’ about departure

-

David Moyes insists he is “comfortable” with his departure from West Ham and how it was dealt with.

Moyes was expecting to hold talks about his future after the final game of the season next weekend, but the Hammers announced on Monday he would be leaving when his contract expires this summer.

The club’s hierarchy have also held talks with potential successors, with former Wolves boss Julen Lopetegui expected to be appointed.

Many observers feel Moyes, 61, should have been shown more respect after four-and-a-half years in charge and leading them to the Europa Conference League trophy last season.

But he insisted: “Look, there’s a lot of things in football that can be done a lot better.

“But look, I’m really comfortable with the situation. I’m comfortable with the board, so at the moment everything’s fine. It’s football.”

Moyes said he believed the decision was the right one for both him and the club.

“I knew it was a decision that I’d have to take with my family and we have done,” he said.

“I’ve been away a long time from my family and now was the time to make that decision.

“Do I want to stay in management? ‘Yes’ would be the answer to that.

“But first and foremost would be a break. Last year we won the final on June 7 and we were back on July 1.

“If you look at the amount of games we’ve played over the last couple years and the little time we’ve had as a break, I strive to work as hard as I can at every club and I’ve tried to do that at West Ham as well.

“So I’m going to have a break. But I’m looking forward to working for the BBC and TalkSport in the Euros, working for UEFA.”
