National Champs spot for Hunts man

Brampton’s Glyn Milbourne will represent Huntingdon­shire in the Bowls England two-bowl national championsh­ips at Leamington at the end of August.

He won the day-long qualifier on his home green by defeating Parkway’s Tristan Morton 17-7 in the final.

In the semi-finals, Milbourne defeated club colleague Simon Leader 15-13, while Morton accounted for Sawtry’s Toby Furzeland 159. There were 31 entries.

The Northants men’s county teams open their inter-county champion

ships on Saturday at home to Suffolk.

The Adams Trophy team are in action at Parkway, while the Newton Trophy side are at Whittlesey Manor.

Hunts have named their Johns Trophy team for a knockout match against Essex at Royston on Saturday, June 18.

The Bowls England national inter-club two fours competitio­n is under way.

There were opening round wins for Brampton A, Whittlesey Manor B, Sawtry, St Ives and Brampton B.

There was a record turnout of 24 teams for the annual Longthorpe BC open Spring triples.
