America’s rugged Pacific Northwest with its deep forests and raging rivers is the ideal location for a woman in peril thriller.

This re-make of the Swedish film Gone benefits from its location, and from director John Hyams who knows how to keep the action rolling and viewers on the edge of their seats, even if the subject matter has been tackled many times before.

It reminded me of the Meryl Streep/Kevin Bacon film The River Wild, only star Jules Willcox (pictured) as Jessica doesn’t have a hubby and two kids for moral support, she’s on her lonesome and the target for a looney on the loose. Jessica’s headed for the hills after the death of her husband, to try and get a new perspective on life. Unfortunately, she finds herself having to play tag on the highway with a driver who seems intent on following her, and possibly running her off the road.

She seems fated to keep meeting her potential stalker (Marc Menchaca) who makes an insincere apology when they bump into each other in a car park, Then, inexplicable, she stops to help when she later comes across him in the middle of nowhere with his car broken down. He manages to drug and overpower her and she wakes up in his basement. When she manages to escape the hunt begins in earnest and Jessica soon makes it clear she

doesn’t intend to give up and act the victim, the man has picked on the wrong woman - this one is a lot smarter and capable than he is.

Lively entertainment.
