World Book Day was once again celebrated in style across Peterborough, with school pupils dressing up as their favourite literary characters.

Pupils from John Clare Primary School were among those to really get in the spirit of the occasion, while Nene Valley Primary School was visited by author James Nicol.

Among those to show their support for World Book Day is MP for Peterborough Paul Bristow who is supporting its national ‘Share a Story’ campaign, which calls on parents and carers to read with their children for 10 minutes a day.

Every pupil in Peterborough will be given a £1 book token for World Book Day which they can take to a bookshop or supermarket to get a free book.

This year, World Book Day 2020 is calling on the nation to share one million stories through a mass participation initiative.

All readers have to do is register their participation at https://www.worldbookday. com/share-a-million-stories/ and share their story by March 29 to be in with a chance of winning prizes.

Mr Bristow said: “This is a hugely ambitious campaign to get the nation reading.

“I hope parents, grandparents and carers in Peterborough will take time to read for 10 minutes with their children on World Book Day, and every day after. Sharing stories together, at home or school, in the library or in the park, on a bus or train – anywhere, anytime – for just 10 minutes a day has long-lasting effects on a child’s future.”
