Santa delivered fun and enjoyment

- By Janet Cooke - email: janet.4.cooke@btinternet.com

Ahuge thank-you from Santa and our local Rotary Clubs. A delighted St Ives Rotary Club President, Iain Martin tells me that after 14 evenings, three weekend static events, and numerous visits to groups and Christmas festivities, their Santa Sleigh rounds have come to an end. They had great fun meeting so many lovely people, and the excited youngsters really made it a year to remember. Once again the fantastic residents of St Ives, Earith, Colne, Needingworth, Somersham, Bluntisham, Fenstanton, Hilton, plus no doubt many other visitors to St Ives, have been so unbelievably generous that their Rotary club has raised in excess of £10,800 - a fabulous amount of money which will make a real difference to many local charities and will support their activities next year. The club will be delighted to tell us how this money is spent over the coming months, and the support it provides.

Courtesy of Huntingdon Cromwell Rotary, Santa on his sleigh also arrived in the centre of Huntingdon at weekends in the run up to Christmas. Santa and his elves brought a lot of joy to the youngsters. Members of the public also gave generously to this collection.

From Santa and all his elves, Rotary hopes everyone had a very Happy Christmas. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all our readers. We hope you all have a happy and peaceful New Year.

Footnote: Across the world Rotary’s volunteer ‘workforce’ gave over 47 million volunteer hours last year. This amounts to the equivalent of nearly 27,000 full-time workers. Rotary members dedicate their time in a variety of fields, with health, education and social assistance being the most popular. We are always keen to welcome new members to help in our service projects and activities.
