Factory blast was during maintenance
Two people who suffered serious injuries following an explosion at a factory in Woodston were carrying out maintenance work on a truck at the time.
The refrigerator truck explosion occurred at an industrial unit in Shrewsbury Avenue at around 4.40pm on Wednesday last week, prompting a huge medical response including two air ambulances.
It has now been established that the factory was being subleased by XPO Logistics - a global provider of transportation and logistics services - to Nagel Langdons, a chilled and frozen food distributor which is part of the Nagel-Group.
A Nagel-Group spokespersonsaid:“Weareworking closely with the investigating authorities in order to determine the cause of the explosion.”
Police confirmed last Thursday that both of the injured people had suffered serious injuries, but no further information is being released. An XPO spokesperson said: “An explosion occurred at an area at our site that we sublease to a customer, and two people were injured. Our thoughts are with both of them as we work with local authorities to gather more information about this incident.”
A spokesperson for the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) said: “HSE is aware and investigating.” INCLUDING DB&B ACCOMMODATION, EXCURSION PROGRAMME, LUXURY COACH TRAVEL & MOST FEATURE OUR DOOR-TO-DOOR COLLECTION SERVICE Mon 18 Mar English Riviera, Beautiful Dartmouth & Cream Tea - 5 Days £329
