£1.6m homes scheme for social market
New build to help overcome high cost of home ownership
Work has begun on the construction of a new 1.6 million social homes programme in Peterborough. DevelopersLindumarebuilding 16 “affordable” homes at Park Lane, Eastfield, for city housing association Cross Keys Homes.
The development will take a year to complete and involves the construction of 12 affordable rented homes and four shared ownership properties.
Cross Keys Homes’ chief executive, Claire Higgins, said: “We are very pleased to be working to develop this public land into much need- ed affordable homes, specifically for local people.”
Mick Papworth, managing director of Lindum in Peterborough, said: “As a local business employing lo- cal people it is pleasing to be building these much needed new homes for people in our own community.”
Cross Keys Homes’ executive director of development andsales, DavidKeeling, said: “With the high cost of home ownership, in many cases with stand still salaries, truly affordable homes are needed more than ever before.” Although it is sad to think about couples who have been married for a long time separating and divorcing, a lot of solicitors are now finding that they have many more elderly clients in this situation.
