Round-up

-

The Eagles are flying high.

Oundle, nicknamed the Eagles, met old rivals Stewart & Lloyds for the first time in a league game on Saturday and won the match away from home 27-7 - their first ever victory against the Corby side.

It was also their sixth win from six games in Midlands Division Three East (South) and they top the table with a six-point advantage over Long Buckby.

John I ronmonger, Eddie King and Rob Shingles got their tries, but man-ofthe-match was fly-half Craig Tandy for the way he controlled the game. Pushing him close were Dan Page for a herculean effort in attack and defence, and Toby Snelling for his abrasive running.

A local side also lead the way in Midlands Division Two East (North).

That’s Stamford and their 34-10 triumph at home to Melbourne on Saturday sees them go three points clear of second-placed Dronfield.

At the other end of the table there was a first win of the season for Spalding. They won 26-22 at home to Nottingham Casuals thanks to a try in the very last seconds by George Brown. Casuals led 15-7 at the break.

Thorney got back to winning ways by beating Sileby Vikings 23-15 at home to move to third in Midlands Division Four East (South).

Tom Warren, Sean Leedell, Tom Deplancke and Antony Jones crossed for tries to earn Thorney a bonus point.

For the first time in three years Oundle managed to put out a senior third XV. The side was a mix of colts and vets and they beat Rushden & Higham thirds 50-7.

Bob Neale had a run-out at 68 years-old and Hamish Gardner got a personal haul of 20 points with two tries and five conversions.

Borough seconds were pipped 8-7 at Old Northamptonians but there a nuber of encouraging displays.

Perry Whincup and Jarred Lester did well at the lineouts, Tom Bird added bulk to the scrum, Nathan Holt was solid in defence, and scrumhalf and debutant Graham Mawhinney was the stand-out Borough player.
