Managers agree this is a very special Posh side

Darren Ferguson swallowed some bitter medicine at the ABAX Stadium like a man. The former Posh boss returned to the club where he won three promotions last weekend and watched his Doncaster side dismantled by the pace, aggression and skill of Graham Westley’s men.

Ferguson received a splendid reception from the home fans before the game on his first visit to the club following his sacking last February.

His day went downhill rapidly from then on.

“I was very happy with the reception,” Ferguson admitted. “But, sadly, that was the best part of the day for me.

“Sometimes you have to take your medicine and move on and Peterborough were very good. They were better than us in every department.

“They have pace in their side and they are very attackminded. The game became stretched very quickly and that suited them far more than it suited us.

“I was impressed with Peterborough. I wish them well.”

Posh boss Westley was naturally thrilled with the biggest win of his time at the club - it was also the biggest home win in the Football League since the 7-1 rout of Ipswich in the Championship under Fergu- son in August 2011.

Westley wants teams to fear a match against his vibrant team.

“I want teams to feel they are under attack from the first whistle,” Westley said. “Not just by the speed and skill in our attacking game, but also because we defend aggressively.

“Obviously I was delighted with the four goals we scored, but t he c l ean sheet was just as important to me. We spent a lot of time working on our defensive play before this game so not conceding was also very pleasing.

“We have worked on stopping teams creating chances, never mind scoring, and Doncaster rarely threatened us.

“It was i mportant that we backed up the excellence of our forward play with a good defensive effort and we achieved that.

“And if we had been four or five goals up at half-time I don’t think anyone could have complained.

“We really were that good. We played great football from the start.

“We are a team with the ambition and desire to create chances, the ambition and desire to score goals and the ambition and desire to keep clean sheets.

“It’s a very dangerous combination.

Turkish midfielder Er- hun Oztumer again grabbed most of the plaudits with a goal and an assist in a man-ofthe-match display, but Westley was reluctant to praise individuals after such an outstanding all-round performance.

“Obviously there were very good individual performances. There always will be in a 4-0 win, but I don’t think any individual deserved to be singled out, purel y because the whole team was so good. I want us to show improvement in all areas every week and so far it’s going well. We scored another goal from a set-piece which is encouraging. Our setpiece play is certainly getting better.”

Westley gave a Football League debut to Andrew Fox who was a second-half substitute for Anderson.

Fox (22) was signed from college football in the United States in the summer and he’s made a big impression on his manager.

“Andrew deserved his debut,” Westley added. “He is a real hard worker in training and he looks a very good prospect.

“I sent him on with 25 minutes to go and he performed his role well.

“I even insisted he took a l ate free- kick because I was keen for him to get the chance to make an impact on the game.”

Posh manager Graham Westley is delighted with his team’s progress. Andrew Fox made his Posh debut as a second-half

substitute. Graham Westley: “The clean sheet was as pleasing as scoring four goals.”
