Site shooting charge men plead not guilty
Afather and son have appeared in court charged with carrying out a shooting at a city travellers’ site earlier this year. FredSmith( 46) andJohnSmith ( 23), both of Edgerley Drain Road, Peterborough, face a number of charges relating to theincidentatOxneyRoadtravellers’ site onSeptember17this year.
BothmenappearedatPeterboroughCrownCourtonFriday wheretheypleadednotguiltyto a numberofcharges relating to the incident.
John Smith pleaded not guilty to onecountofattempted murder, threecountsofwounding with intent and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life.
Fred Smith pleaded not guilty to threecountsofwounding with intent and one count of possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life.
Neither men spoke other than to enter their pleas and confirm their identity to the court clerk.
The court heard both men deny being at the site when the incident happened.
Three men, aged 41, 43 and 46, sufferedshotgunwoundsin an attack at the travellers’ site.
Armedpolice were called to the site, while members of the travelling community were reassured that it was an isolated incident.
Both defendants were remanded in custody at the hearing.
TheywillstandtrialatPeterborough Crown Court on Monday, March 4 with the hearing expected to last two weeks.
Thecourtwastolditwasunlikely that they wouldappearat court again until the start of the trial.
