‘Perfect way to finish’ - Bob MacIntyre on USPGA stellar showing

-

The Oban man reflected on “a great week” and said the eagle on the last was the perfect way to sign off.

He added: “This is the first time I feel like I’ve really been in contention at a Major championship going into the final round. I didn’t quite play my best out there, but it was solid in the regard of the stuff I’ve been working on and more personally and almost emotionally, it really worked.”

Bob’s performance at Valhalla proved again he has the pedigree to compete on the biggest stage.

While he has admitted struggling with the changes the switch to the US Tour has served up personally and professionally, his third top ten finish in just 13 Major starts - as well as his stellar showing in last year’s Ryder Cup - will have given him plenty confidence the decision was the right one.

He added: “I stayed patient and I kind of got my reward. It’s just pleasing to know I can stay in the fight and then you don’t know what will happen at the end.

“I had nothing going and I felt like I was always outside a birdie chance or always kind of chasing my tail. I stood on the 18th tee and Mike, my caddie, said, ’two good swings and let’s just get this thing done’.

“I hit a good tee shot and for the second I was between clubs. I had been hitting the rescue so far all week and it was perfect distance with some cut, and when I hit it, it came off exactly how I pictured it.

“When I saw the crowd kind of standing up I thought it might go in the hole and it was a good way to finish.”

Bob now plays in the Charles Schwab Classic in Fort Worth, Texas, which begins today (Thursday).
