Pedigree Bulling Heifers (60) averaged £2,168.26 and sold to 2,700gns (£2,835) 5 times for lots 38, 39, 40, 41 & 42 all from G MacRae, Kintail, Ferintosh, Muir of Ord all selling to Mulholland Contract, Ettricksha­ws, Selkirk. Pedigree Yearling Heifers (5) averaged £934.50 and sold to 1,150gns (£1,207.50) for lot 80 from Mr F S Renwick, Inverbroom Farm, Ullapool selling to Polly Estates, Inverpolly, Ullapool.

Pedigree in Calf cows (4) averaged £2,073.75 and sold to 2,100gns (£2,205) lot 104 from Firm of Fanblair, Fanblair Farm, Kiltarlity selling to Messrs W & J Brown, Hilton of Culsh, New Deer. Sim/Luing Bulling Heifers (1) sold to 1,800gns (£1,890) for lot 105 from A l & A C McCall, Culmaily Farm, Golspie selling to Messrs A & K Rhind, Newton of Struthers, Kinloss

Sim/Luing Yearling Heifers (5) averaged £1,228.50 and sold to 1,500gns (£1,627.50) for lot 106 from Messrs A L & A C McCall, Culmaily Farm, Golspie selling to Messrs James Warnock & Sons, Dreva Farm, Biggar.

“Dingwall and Highland Marts annual show and sale of pedigree luing cattle once again attracted a large crowd from all over Scotland and the north of England. The sale show was again kindly sponsored by Davidson Animal Feeds with judging proceeding­s this year in the hands of able stockman Ewan Ferguson, who is stockman for Conon Brae Farms, Torgorm. A strong entry of luings were forward again this year and a true credit to the consignors. The best pair of heifers and winners of the Lady Anne memorial cup was a stunning pair of roan beauties consigned by Mr Rory Cameron, Monzie with the hammer falling at 2,100gns selling to Dingwall stalwart Messrs Birnie, Guisachan. The reserve pair of heifers went to Graeme MacRae for another two stunners from his Kintail herd which cashed in at the day’s top price of 2700gns and are heading south to Selkirk. Bull met a more hesitant enquiry topping at 4,200gns for Altnaharra Bouncer from Peter Bakker selling to Messrs Dodds, Tundergart­h, Lockerbie.”

On the same day the mart sold 217 adult head of breeding cattle at their special sale. The bull show was kindly sponsored by Sellars Agri, Invergordo­n and judged by Mr Neil Wattie.

Bulling heifers (62) sold to £1,600 gross for a Simmental cross from Mains of Househill, Nairn.

Heifer with calf at foot (58) sold to £4,000 gross for a Simmental cross with a Limousin cross bullock calf at foot from Wester Bleaton Farm, Bridge of Cally.

In calf Heifer (11) sold to £1,400 gross from Rurach Croft, Inverinate.

Cow with calf at foot (44) sold to £3,300 gross 4 times for two British Blues with a British Blue heifer calves at foot from Shewglie, Glenurquha­rt and for a Limousin cross with a Limousin cross heifer calf and a Simmental cross with a Charolais cross calve from Pitgersie Farm, Newburgh.

In calf cow (22) sold to £1,550 gross for a Beef Shorthorn cross from 2 & 7 Burnbank, Invershin.

Bulls (20) sold to £6,500 gross twice for a British Blue from Craigieban­k Farms, Forgie and for a Charolais from Wester Craiglands, Fortrose.
