Sacred voices set to soar in Fort William
Singers from South Carolina, USA, are visiting Fort William soon as part of firsttime overseas tour.
Summerville Sacred Voices will give a special concert in the Duncansburgh Church in aid of church funds on Saturday July 1 at 7.30pm.
Entitled With a Voice of Singing, the concert the choir will perform will have an eclectic mix of classical and contemporary songs, including works by American and European composers and featuring spirituals, folk hymns, and choral classics.
The Summerville Sacred Voices is a 20 mixed voice ensemble. It consists of members of the Summerville
Presbyterian Church Choir, former students of the director, William Bennett, and current students.
The choir is on a first-time overseas tour and has chosen Scotland as its destination.
In addition to Fort William, the choir will perform at St Giles’ Cathedral and
Greyfriars Kirk in Edinburgh and St John’s Church in Perth before ending their eight-day tour in the Fort.
“We are thrilled to perform for the people and visitors of Fort William,” said musical director William Bennett.
“Our singers look forward to meeting everyone, and we hope to raise a good sum for the Fort William Kilmallie Church.
“I am particularly grateful to Sheana Fraser who has been instrumental in setting up this event and to local music director and teacher, Catherine Cameron, who has kindly stepped in to play the piano for our concert when our own pianist was unable to travel to Scotland.”
Concert admission is £5 on the door with free admission for school aged children.
All proceeds go to Church funds.
The concert promises to be a wonderful event, and all are welcome to attend.
