Help on hand for those who need it most

-

Help is on hand to reach the most vulnerable people across Oban, Lorn and the Islands.

Argyll and Bute Council is working with community groups, organisations and volunteers to make sure people who have been asked to stay at home for 12 weeks (shielding) and have no existing support, receive food parcels.

The Caring for People Team is a partnership between the Health and Social Care Partnership, Third Sector Interface (TSI) and the council.

‘We are helping those most in need to access food, medication and emotional support,’ said a council spokesperson.

Residents across Oban, Lorn and the Isles who are ‘shielding’ have been contacted to ensure they have access to support. A helpline has been set up so that anyone who has received a letter from the Chief Medical Officer advising shielding status can place requests for a national food package.

In Oban, Lorn and the Isles the Caring for People team has access to 54 volunteers.

The council is also providing food parcels to those without access to Care for People support.

A massive joint effort has meant food is being delivered to all communities including the islands where required.

School hubs

In addition, help is going to 10 school hubs across Argyll and Bute, including Oban Primary Campus, for free school meal provision and help with their provision of childcare for key workers in term time and during holidays.

'Thanks go to everyone who is helping with the co-ordinated effort to reach out to residents impacted at this time,’ added the spokesperson. ‘We are here to help.’

Anyone struggling due to the impact of Covid-19 should get in touch with the helpline 01546 605524 between 9am and 5pm, Monday to Friday.
