Bob pulls out of Abu Dhabi event due to hand injury
After his stunning debut season on the European tour, Oban’s Bob MacIntyre was due to dust off his clubs this week for his opening appearance of the 2020 season.
Bob was ready to tee up in the HSBC Championship in Abu Dhabi today (Thursday) where he was hoping to pick up where he left off last year.
But on Wednesday morning, he announced his decision to withdrawn from this week’s Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship due to a niggling hand injury.
The 23-year-old made the decision yesterday morning after feeling he is not ready yet to make his first appearance of the 2020 season on the European Tour.
Bob said: ‘Really disappointed to have to pull out of this week’s @ADGolfChamps, but I need another week to get myself back to full fitness before launching my 2020 @ EuropeanTour campaign. This is a great event, so it’s frustrating to miss out this year.’
Bob was due to go up against a very strong field, which includes world number one Brooks Koepka, as well as world numbers seven and 10 in Patrick Cantlay and Tommy Fleetwood.
Ahead of his decision yesterday, Bob had told The Oban Times: ‘I have only really set out one goal and I am shooting for the stars. That is simply to make the top 50 in the world.
‘I am trying to play all the big events in the world to boost my world rankings.
‘If I can play Augusta [where the Masters will be held] and I walk away at the end of the year and can’t play another round of golf, I can walk away having done everything I wanted to do in the game.’
