The Oban Times

It is still all go in and around Oban

- KAY MCDONALD editor@obantimes.co.uk

Where has the summer gone? I can’t believe that this weekend is September. It seems no time since I was counting down to Oban Live at the beginning of June and now here we are almost in autumn.

What a summer it has been: a music festival, cruise ships, Highland games, pipers and lot and lots of people enjoying themselves and loving their time in Oban.

We still have so much to look forward to as well. Tonight (weather permitting) we have the Oban High School Pipe Band and Highland Dancers in McCaig’s Tower and then a ceilidh in The View.

Tomorrow (Friday), the Art Society begins its annual show in the Cadets Hall in Tweeddale Street.

On Saturday, the launch of Oban as Scotland’s first Healthy Living Town is at Atlantis Leisure with something for everyone, from dementia awareness, art and culture, tai chi and more than 30 different displays and activities including a free family fun day. It is something we should all support.

Next Wednesday we also have a beautiful cruise ship, the Pacific Princess, with more than 1,000 souls aboard, which will be our last big ship of the season unless we have any unexpected arrivals.

We’ve had one or two ships which have called due to weather on their way to somewhere else and I’m delighted that they enjoyed Oban and the welcome they received so much that they’re going to come back next year.

Still to come, we have a Diecast Model Show on September 8 and a big one with the Camanachd Cup final on September 15. Motorfest is on September 16 which this year is going to be even better with a stunt bike team providing entertainment.

Last week’s photo was a really easy one of the pillars at Chalmers on George Street and this one isn’t too far away but maybe just slightly harder.
