Inverurie go loco with goal fest against Fort

Young Lochaber side no match for in-form Locos

-

Fort William were on the wrong end of a double-figure scoreline again on Saturday as Inveruries Locos made light work of the youthful visiting side.

For the fourth time in five games this season the Fort conceded 10 or more goals in what was a difficult game for the Lochaber side who had a number of key absences including captain Farquhar MacRae.

Jordan Leyden opened the scoring after 18 minutes with a 25-yard left-footed strike into the top corner. Leyden then turned provider as he laid off Chris Angus who slotted the ball past Fort ’keeper Mateusz Kulbacki.

Greg Mitchell rifled an angled shot into the top right corner of the Fort goal to make it 3-0 after 25 minutes.

Neil Gauld got his first of the match, tapping in after a spillage from the goalkeeper.

Fort continued to play and defended well for the remainder of the half until the 44th minute when Leyden finished low past Kulbacki after a slick passing move from the Locos through the Fort midfield.

The Fort were looking to stop the slide with the scores at 5-0 at halftime. However, it took just six minutes for Inverurie to add to their tally after Mitchell got his second of the match with a curled finish from inside the box. Shortly after, Gauld got his second with a close range finish.

Inverurie were awarded a penalty after Iain MacIntyre was judged to have pulled back Mitchell who was through on goal.

However, the Fort goalkeeper managed to pull off a great save down low to deny striker

Gauld from 12 yards.

The Fort were then reduced to 10 men after Glen Donoghue was sent off.

In the 74th minute, Angus got his second before Gauld and Leyden rounded off their hat-tricks to take the Loco’s scoring to 10 for the afternoon.

Fort William sit bottom of the Highland League on zero points along with Lossiemouth and Strathspey Thistle.

Formartine visit Claggan park next Saturday, August 25, to take on the Fort.
