Sun shines on St Columba’s sports day
THE sun was shining as parents, pupils and staff gathered at Mossfield Stadium for St Columba’s sports day on Friday May 18.
The afternoon’s events got under way after Oban High School Pipe Band, accompanied by St Columba’s School pipers Calan and Sam, piped the clans into the stadium.
The first race of the day was the inter-school mile race between St Columba’s, Rockfield and Park, with St Columba’s retaining the shield for the third year running.
Team-mates Calan, Callie, Mia and Kuba were delighted, as were all their cheering audience.
The good weather and even better atmosphere continued as the class races commenced, from the wheelbarrow to the Spacehopper race.
All 110 pupils from primary one to seven enjoyed taking part, with many winners happily showing off their winning stickers.
The parents’ race was as popular as ever, with a family success for winners Mr and Mrs Ryszka, winning the dads’ and mums’ races.
There were many future pupils joining in with the toddler and pre-school race, all enjoying a sweet treat at the finish line. The last race of the day was the much-anticipated clan relay race, which was won by Clan Derry.
A great day was had by all, and the school would like to thank everyone who helped make the day a success, all the supporting families who came to watch and, of course, all the children for taking part.
