SPIREITES IN TUNE WITH DRUM-MOND

- By Jon Couch

KANE DRUMMOND says he has been offered a “life-changing opportunity” after landing a dream move into the Football League with Chesterfield.

The 23-year-old front man has joined the National League champions on a 12-month deal following the expiry of his contract at Macclesfield.

Drummond, a product of the Robbie Fowler Academy, first made his name at Warrington Rylands where he won the FA Vase, the Northern Premier League West Division title and bagged the league’s player of the season accolade.

He joined Macc in November 2022 and scored 19 goals this season as the Silkmen reached the semi-finals of both the FA Trophy and NPL Premier play-offs.

Drummond rejected a new deal from Silkmen boss Michael Clegg to join Paul Cook’s Spireites, but insists he will always have a place in his heart for the club he has departed.

“We had a good season at Macclesfield,” Drummond told Chesterfield’s website on his unveiling.

“It’s just a bit sad that we didn’t get the promotion we wanted or go further in the FA Trophy.

“Macclesfield is a special club. The fans made it special. The atmosphere there is unbelievable.

“I’m made up with the move. It’s a big opportunity for me and for my family – a life-changing opportunity.

“It’s very special, Opportunities like this don’t come around a lot, so I’m delighted.

“The manager [Cook] has told me what he’s about and what he stands for and that’s everything I believe in.

“I just want to push on, go on the pitch and make him proud.”

Drummond will link-up at Chesterfield with his former team-mate James Berry, who he played with at Macclesfield.
