SADIOU’S THE NEW HERO FOR SPIREITES
JAMES Rowe’s Chesterfield made it two wins from two after goals from Sadiou Khan and George Carline ensured a rather comfortable victory over Wealdstone.
Impressive Khan took just five minutes to cap his home debut with a goal and earned rave reviews from the boss.
“I’m delighted for him,” Rowe stated. “He deserves his goal. He’s a great lad and I enjoy working with him. I’m really pleased he took the information on and had a shot from outside the box because we have been working on it.
“He’s a street player and what I mean by that is, he’s hard to challenge one vs one. If you are going against him, he can roll away from you, run away from you and trick you.”
Khan – who joined from Maidstone United in July – wasted no time in endearing himself to the Spireites faithful, receiving Calvin Miller’s throw and powerfully driving his effort home from the edge of the box past George Wickens.
Khan was enjoying his first start for his new club and almost broke through the Wealdstone defence again soon after to earn applause from the 5,366 crowd.
Wealdstone struggled to make their way out of their own half but came close to a shock equaliser when Rhys Browne jinked his way into the penalty area before lashing his shot straight into Scott Loach’s side-netting.
Chesterfield dominated the first half with sustained periods of possession and went close again when a short corner whipped in by Miller, was nodded across goal by Laurence Maguire before Fraser Kerr saw his header creep over the crossbar.
Stuart Maynard’s side sought to find a way into the contest during the second half. Craig Fasanmade gave the Spireites an almighty scare in the 55th minute. Charlie Cooper’s wicked free-kick was met by the winger, but his header was skewed wide of the goal.
That, however, was as good as it got for the Stones and with ten minutes of the game to go, centre-back Kerr unleashed a longrange piledriver that Wickens brilliantly tipped wide.
From the resulting corner, Weladstone originally cleared their lines but Gavin Gunning recycled the ball back into the penalty area with an audacious overhead kick. The ball fell perfectly for Carline’s head, who couldn’t miss from a few yards out.
Maynard thought his side deserved more from the game, saying: “I thought we dominated the game. They came out and we didn’t get into our patterns of play.
“There aren’t going to be many teams come here to Chesterfield and dominate the game and I think we’ve come her and dominated it. Overall, I’m proud of the lads.”
