DALY: BEES WILL GET BUZZ BACK UNDER TIM

- By Tom Scott

LIAM DALY says he would never have left Gloucester City if he wasn’t absolutely sure new club Barnet could arrest their current slide.

The tough-tackling defender joins a Bees side languishing in the National League’s bottom three, six points from safety.

But with his old Solihull Moors boss Tim Flowers now occupying The Hive dugout, Daly believes the great escape is possible.

“Barnet are a club that shouldn’t be in the position they’re in,” Daly told The NLP. “Everyone involved with the club knows that and we want to push on and get back into the Football League. It hasn’t started great this season, but they couldn’t have made a much better appointment that Tim and [assistant] Gary [Whild].

“I had a good time at Solihull Moors with Tim and Gaz. We had two solid seasons – staying in the league and then finishing second the following year. People always seem to think that I left on bad terms but there was never actually a problem.

“When I was at Solihull Moors, we were in a worse position than Barnet are now and we did a great job turning the club’s fortunes around. The way Tim plays football wins you games.

“At the minute, Barnet need people in place who are going to get results and I might be blowing my own trumpet, but with my experience and what I offer as a player, I know I’m the right kind of fit to help go and turn it around.”

Daly joins fellow defenders Ben Richards-Everton and Themis Kefalas (loan), from Bradford City and QPR respectively, in helping to bolster up the Bees’ back line and believes restoring stability is the key for now.

“We’ve got to start winning some games,” Daly added. “I’m sure the gaffer is wanting to just stabilise things this season and then kick on properly next season.

“The club should be competing at the top end of the league and the situation isn’t ideal at the minute. But with a few more signings and the experience we’ve got, we’ll turn it around. But as it stands at the minute, we have to be aiming just to stay in the league.

“The league table doesn’t lie. Performances haven’t been what anyone wanted them to be but the players that have been brought in have been brought in for a reason.

“They’re obviously good players. We’ve got good players around the place; confidence isn’t going to be too high at the minute. But I wouldn’t have left a club top of the league if I thought that this can’t be turned round at Barnet.

“People know what they’re going to get from me. I’m an honest kid and I give my all on the pitch. I’ve proven at my previous clubs that I’ve got a winning mentality and I know what it takes to win football matches.”
