TRURO’S FUTURE IS IN HANDS OF NEW OWNERS

- By Jon Couch

A TAKEOVER bid for National League South club Truro City has finally been completed.

Contracts have been exchanged on the deal with the new owners taking control of the club once approval from National League chiefs is received.

The identities of the new investors have not yet been revealed.

“This is a positive move for the football club,” said current owners Peter Masters and Philip Perryman, who took over the White Tigers in 2012.

“The new owners are committed to taking the club forward at its current level within the National League.”

The Cornwall club had ground shared with league rivals Torquay United for the first half of the season, but returned to their Treyew Road home in January after plans to build a Lidl supermarket there had been shelved.

Truro City are in the midst of moving to a new home with the proposed Stadium for Cornwall expected to begin in the next couple of months.

The site, in Three-milestone, just outside Truro, will be shared between the football club, the Cornish Pirates rugby team and students from Truro & Penwith College.

Meanwhile, Havant & Waterlooville chairman Derek Pope has denied the club is for sale.

But the long-serving Hawks chief has revealed the National League strugglers are in need of additional investment.

“The club has come a long way and we are proud of what we have achieved. It is becoming more and more difficult, though,” he told the Portsmouth News this week.

“In my opinion, one person can’t do it alone. We are looking for ways to strengthen the club and to make sure we stay at the level we want to be and even go higher.

“Hopefully there is someone else out there who will love to get involved.”
