SAINTS BACK ON SUMMIT AS DRAPER CLINCHES IT

- By Chris Smart

THE NEW SAINTS are back on top of the Welsh Premier after a hard-earned 1-0 victory at Llandudno.

Greg Draper scored the only goal of the game for the champions after half an hour. But the students of Cardiff

Met will return to the summit if they overcome Cefn Druids at Cyncoed this afternoon.

Bangor City stayed in touch with the pacemakers when they triumphed 2-0 at Connah’s Quay

Nomads who had started the match in second place.

The Nomads played three quarters of the game with only ten men after the dismissal of George Horan and the Citizens also finished the game a man short after Laurence Wilson was sent off for two bookings.

Dean Rittenburg and Steven Hewitt scored within three first half minutes of one another to set up the Bangor success.

Bala Town halted Aberystwyth’s recent revival as they won 2-1 at Park Avenue.

After a goalless first half Mike Hayes netted twice for the Lakesiders before Jonny Spittle pulled one back for the Seasiders six minutes from time.

Prestatyn heaped more woe on struggling bottom club Carmarthen Town who are now eight points adrift.

The Seasiders swept to a 3-0 victory over the Old Gold who played for an hour with only 10 men after the sending-off of Jordan Knott for a bad challenge on Zyaac Edwards.

Ben Maher fired Prestatyn into the lead early on when he beat keeper Lee Idzi and Alec Williams made it 2-0 after 71 minutes with a powerful 22-yard shot while Jack Higgins made the game completely safe with a strike in the closing minutes.

Barry Town’s recent resurgence ground to a halt when they crashed 3-0 at improving Newtown.

But the result of this game hung in the balance until Luke Boundford swooped for a lastgasp brace of goals. Earlier Tom Goodwin had given them the lead. In other action, Haverfordwest

County cemented their place at the top of Welsh League Division One with a thumping 5-0 victory over struggling Caerau Ely.

Dan Williams was the star as he hit a first-half hat-trick to put County in full control.

A late Declan Carroll penalty sealed the three points but Charlie Davies added a fifth in the dying minutes.

Gwent-based Goytre remain just two points behind in second following their 4-1 triumph over Undy Athletic.

Luke Prosser inspired Goytre to victory with a treble while Dan McDonald grabbed their fourth. Ben Lawrence claimed a consolation for Undy.

Meanwhile, Llanelli Town left it late to secure a narrow 1-0 win over Cwmamman United.

The game looked to be heading to a goalless stalemate after Chris Curtis had denied Lee Trundle from the spot. But Joe Clarke found the net in the 88th minute to snatch the victory. And in the Huws Gray Alliance,

Caernarfon Town went five points clear with a 4-2 home victory over Holywell Town.
